Know Jesus

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is God.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. -John 1:1-4

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. -John 1:14

Why did Jesus come?

You may have heard it said that everyone is basically good, but there is nothing further from the truth. We are all born sinners. The Bible says: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” –Romans 3:23

Sin separates us from God eternally. The Bible says: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” –Romans 6:23

“…John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” –John 1:29

What did Jesus do?

The Apostle Paul describes what Jesus did for us, as the gospel, which means good news:

“Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures…” –1 Corinthians 15:1-4

How can you respond to Jesus?

Having understood that we are sinners in need of salvation from sin and its death penalty, and realizing that Jesus paid the price for that sin, we now simply receive the free gift of salvation offered to us in Christ.

“That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” –Romans 10:9-10

“For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” –Romans 10:13

Remember, you cannot do it on your own. The Bible teaches us that,

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” –Ephesians 2:8-9

When can you respond to Jesus?

Now is the time you can respond. If you want a personal relationship with Jesus, simply confess to God that you know you are a sinner in need of salvation, turn away from your sin (repentance) and that you accept God’s gift through Jesus Christ. Here’s a suggested prayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank you for dying on the cross for me. I confess that I am a sinner and I need your salvation. I turn away from my sin and turn toward You, my Savior. Come into my life right now, and forgive me for my sin. Change my heart and life and fill me with your Holy Spirit. I commit my life to you now, in Jesus name. Amen.

If you have prayed this or something similar with all your heart, God has heard your prayer and you have been born again into the family of God!
