Calvary Chapel Home Education Center (CCHEC) is not a school.  We are a tutorial cooperative learning center specifically for homeschoolers.  We are committed providing self-governing students with a Christ-centered educational opportunity to challenge and encourage them to grow academically, socially, and spiritually.

Dear Parents,

The purpose of this packet is to provide you with information that will aid you in taking an active role in your child’s academic program. This booklet contains the list of courses we intend to offer, if there is a need, during the 2024-2025 school year. Please spend time discussing course options with your family to properly make descisions regarding your child’s education at CCHEC.

ELEMENTARY COURSE DESCRIPTION
Elementary
Grades: K-5th 
Tuition: $350 for academic classes/ $300 for electives per hour block
 
Course description:
Students will be encouraged to learn core subjects throughout their day, including Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  Much of the curriculum will be intergraded to help students grasp core concepts within multiple activities that promote and develop literacy and critical thinking skills.  Weekly lesson plans will be sent home to continue work for the remainder of the week. Because this is an intergraded curriculum, it is recommended to attend a full day. Each one-hour block counts as a full course. Curriculum TBD
JUNIOR HIGH COURSE DESCRIPTION
Junior High School
Grades: 6th -8th 
Tuition: $350 per class
 
Literature
Course description:
Grades 6th-8th
This course is designed to integrate reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills through a thematic approach. The aim is to produce high-level readers who love literature and are able to respond to it analytically through respectful discussion and eloquent writing. Grammar and mechanics are studied formally to provide students with a common vocabulary with which to discuss their writing with teachers and peers. Curriculum Prentice Hall

General Math(6th/7th)
Course description:
The purpose of this course is to help develop the math skills necesssary to succeed in the high school mandated math classes. Starting with place value and numeration before moving into more complex skills. Curriculum TBD

Pre-Algebra(7th/8th)
Course description:
This course is designed to build upon concepts taught in Math 7th grade. Pre-Algebra is intended to provide a general review of basic concepts such as integers, rational numbers, equations, number theory, and ratio/proportions. At the end of the year, Algebra topics such as geometry, polynominal, and linear equations will be explored. Curriculum MATH*U*SEE

Science
Course description:
Earth and Space:(6th/7th) Geology, Oceanography, Meteorology and Astronomy are the four areas(spheres) of study covered in this course.
Physical science(7th/8th)We will investigate answers to questions about why things happen and how things work through careful study of the basic principles of chemistry and physics. Curriculum Apologia and/or Switched on Schoolhouse

History  
Course description:
Early US History (Grade: 6th).
Civics/Geography(Grade: 7th)
Ancient History (Grade: 8th) 
These courses will help students become informed citizens in regard to their local, state, and federal government. Students will develop critical thinking, problem solving, and communicating through instruction, discussion and exploration of our world history and geography and how it fits into a Biblical worldview. Introduction to Spanish
Course description:
Grades 6th-8th
We will introduce students to the Spanish language while helping them learn basic vocabulary, conversation, grammer and culture. Curriculum TBD

Grades 9th-12th (completed full year courses will earn 1 credit)

Literature  
Course description:
Grades 9th -10th are thematic and focus on literary skills
Grades 11th -12th are chronological studies in American and British Literature
These course emphasizes the study and consideration of the literary, cultural, and human significance of selected great works of the Western and non-Western literary traditions from around the world. An important goal is to promote an understanding of the works in their cultural/historical contexts and of the enduring human values, which unite the different literary traditions. Course description:
God’s character is revealed in the Earth He has created. It is only natural that we study all of the science courses in which we offer to better understand the character of God which is the ultimate goal for us as creatures of His creation. Course description:
These courses will offer students the opportunity to explore, in depth each week, the history of its beginnings to the present. Through readings, research, and weekly current events, students will view the values and concepts that have developed our Nation. Writing skills will be important in the analysis and relevance of these events on the development of America. Students are encouraged to keep a notebook to record class discussion on significant historical events and specific issues/themes that connect these ideas, such as democracy, freedom, and justice to the world in which we currently live. Spanish I (Grades: 9th-11)
Spanish II (Grades:9th-12th pre-requisite: Spanish I)
Course description:
Spanish I is a beginner level course that helps students to develop proficiency in understanding and speaking a second language by increasing skills through speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Spanish II reinforces these skills and creates opportunities to grow in comprehension in speaking a second language. Curriculum TBD

Writing Workshop(Grades: 6th-8th) 
Course description:
Students will develop and build strengths in reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar and test taking strategies and study skills, as well as to develop and identify their communication skills. This course is primarily project based.
 
Writing Workshop (Grades: 9th-12th)
Course description:
Students will learn to write different types of essays while building test taking strategies and study skills. Journaling and classroom projects are used to promote critical thinking skills and understanding the communication aspects of literacy.
 
Art Class(Grades: 3rd-6TH)  
Material Fee: $50
Course description:
Students will be encouraged to express their own creativity through a variety of mediums.  Some of the mediums will include paint, clay, drawing, fabric, and collage. Expect to see some awesome artwork! Class Limited to 8 students
Art Class(Grades: 7TH-12th)

Learning Skills through Board Games (Grades 3rd-8th)
In this interactive and fun class, students willplay a variety of games to develop and enhance essential skills such as critical thinking, strategic plannin, teamwork, and problem solving.
 
Sewing Basics (Grades: 4th-12th)
Course description:
No experience needed! Students will learn to use an electric sewing machine. Some projects will include pillows, potholders, pants, and eventually advance to quilting. Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine however some machines will be provided. Students are required to bring their own fabrics, thread, etc.
 
Sewing Clothing  (Grades 7th-12th; pre-requisite basic sewing)
Course description:
Students will learn how to use patterns and develop techniques unique to clothing design. Depending on the students ability, projects will be determined based on results from basic sewing. Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machine; however, some machines will be provided. Students are required to bring their own fabrics, thread, patterns, etc.
  
Worship Guitar(Grades: 6th-12th)
Course description:
We will learn basic guitar skills such as tuning, finger placement, basic music theory and chords. With regular and consistent practice students will gain confidence as they learn to play the guitar in a fun way. Students MUST have a guitar and guitar tuner. Students will perform at the end of each semester. Class limited to 8 students.
 
Phys ED/Health(Grades: 6th-12th)
Course description:
Students will learn to take care of their bodies the way God intended. Part of the class will be spent on the lesson and the other part will be doing physical activities. Athletic clothing and sneakers are required.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The following courses are REQUIRED in grades 9th-12th to graduate from a homeschool program.

Four years of English
Three years of Mathematics
Three years of Science
Three years of Social Studies
Two years of Arts and Humanities-(Art, Music, Foreign Language, Practical Living, Bible, etc)
The following subjects MUST BE covered sometime between 7th and 12th grade.

History of the US and Pennsylvania

Algebra
Geometry
Safety Education including fire safety
Health
Physical Education
Music
Art

After meeting the minimum graduation requirements of 15 credits as outlined above, there are no additional requirements for a General Diploma.

However, you may choose obtain an Academic Diploma, Academic Diploma with Honors, and Academic Diploma with Specialization or a General Diploma with Specialization. Please visit Erie County Homeschoolers Diploma Association for additional requirements for those specific diplomas.
